AA batteries can be carried on airplanes, but there are certain limitations and conditions.
Carrying regulations
Ordinary batteries, such as alkaline batteries and nickel hydrogen batteries, can be carried with you on airplanes, but cannot be checked in. These batteries need to be individually protected against short circuits.
Lithium batteries: The lithium content of lithium metal and lithium alloy batteries cannot exceed 2 grams, and the lithium content of lithium-ion batteries cannot exceed 8 grams, and they need to be individually protected to prevent short circuits. These batteries can be carried with you, but cannot be checked in.
Specific regulations
Carry with you: Ordinary batteries and lithium batteries that meet regulations can be carried with you on airplanes.
Prohibited shipment: All items containing batteries, including lithium batteries and regular batteries, are not allowed to be shipped.
Anti short circuit measures: Backup batteries need to be individually equipped with anti short circuit measures to prevent short circuits.
Other relevant regulations
Turn off power: When carrying electronic devices, it is necessary to turn off the power during security checks, such as checking in a laptop that needs to be turned off.
Quantity limit: For lithium-ion backup batteries with a total lithium content of 8 grams or more but not exceeding 25 grams, each person is limited to carrying.
