The inventor of the battery pack was Italian physicist Volta. In 1799, Volta invented the first battery, the “Volta Stack,” which was made by stacking many zinc and silver sheets together and placing a cloth soaked in salt water in the middle. The main contributor to lithium-ion batteries is John Goodenough. Goodenough is a Nobel laureate in chemistry and is known as the ‘father of lithium-ion batteries’. He discovered key materials in the 1980s that made rechargeable batteries more stable and powerful. Goodenough, Stanley Whittingham, and Akira Yoshino were jointly awarded the 2019 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for their contributions to the invention of lithium-ion batteries.
